In 2021, I joined GLOBUS SB Warenhaus in Sankt Wendel as a freelance creative consultant, supporting the design team during a pivotal phase of rethinking the brand’s physical presence. As one of Germany’s leading hypermarket chains, GLOBUS serves thousands of people each day — and the challenge was clear: how can such a large-format space feel more navigable, welcoming, and relevant in an evolving retail landscape?

This was not about spectacle. It was about precision, clarity, and subtle quality — helping everyday infrastructure feel just a little more intentional.

My Role: Creative Consulting in a Functional Space

My contribution focused on creative and spatial consulting in the early design phases of the Sankt Wendel flagship redesign. I worked closely with internal stakeholders and design leads to refine visual logic, spatial zoning, and material identity.

Orientation & Flow

One of the core challenges in large-scale retail is navigation. I advised on improving zoning clarity, customer circulation, and transitions between departments — so that shopping feels less like logistics, and more like a natural, intuitive rhythm.

Material Atmosphere

Even in cost-sensitive environments, material choices can create emotional resonance. I consulted on surface palettes, color coding, and lighting strategy, helping shape an atmosphere that balances efficiency with warmth.

System Thinking

As part of the consulting scope, I provided input on how spatial and visual systems could scale across the brand’s retail environments — not just for Sankt Wendel, but potentially for other locations in the portfolio. This included modular signage strategies, spatial templates, and visual consistency frameworks.

Why It Mattered

Designing a hypermarket isn’t about flashy touchpoints — it’s about trust, clarity, and usability. And that makes it one of the most meaningful contexts to work in: when design becomes truly invisible but incredibly effective.

This project reminded me how design can serve quietly — when done right, the customer barely notices it. But they feel it: in smoother transitions, easier decisions, and a better shopping experience overall.

A Thoughtful Update to a Trusted Brand

GLOBUS has long been known for quality, reliability, and regional connection. My role as a freelance consultant allowed me to support that identity through design thinking and spatial logic, without losing sight of the brand’s roots.

It was a rewarding chance to bring creative clarity to a large-scale, everyday space — one that thousands of people move through daily, without knowing how much intention sits behind every aisle and surface.
